Housing Statistics

As of  March 2009, Swindon Borough Council has a stock of 10,499 properties.  Properties are advertised every week through Swindon Home Bid and include those from local Registered Social Landlords as well.

On average 964 properties are advertised every year, which means there are approximately 80 properties every month being a mix of general purpose and supported).

The length of time you will wait to be housed depends on:

  • your priority need (e.g. the band you are in)
  • the size of your family
  • the type of property you are eligible for
  • the area you want to live in

You can increase your chances of success by bidding frequently, being as flexible as possible in choosing all property types you are eligible for, floor levels and areas. The more restrictive you are, the longer you will have to wait.

Dont expect to be successful the first time you make a bid, you may have to make many other bids before successfully securing a home.

It would be a good idea to check the ‘Recent Lets' page for each bidding cycle as information provided there can be used to help you decide which properties to bid for, by giving you a better idea how popular a particular property or area is and how long you would normally have to wait. You can then decide whether to look for other types of property or areas where you may not have to wait as long.
