Sheltered Housing

We have a long track record of providing homes for older people. We focus on creating living environments that give you greater independence with support when you need it.

If you’re over 60 or over 50 and receiving DLA/PIP and looking for a new home with a little bit of support then one of our sheltered housing schemes might be just what you need. You’ll still have your own place, with the high-quality accommodation and privacy you expect but in a secure environment.

You'll get a self-contained apartment with a lounge, kitchen, bedroom and private bathroom. Bedsits, however do not have a separate lounge. You don’t have to worry about maintenance. If building or repair work needs to be done, we take care of it, giving you the freedom to simply enjoy your living space.

All Swindon Borough Council Sheltered schemes have a dedicated support officer who you can call on for help. This, coupled with a 24-hour back up service provided by our contact centre, means that support is available at any time, day or night.

For information on our Partner's sheltered schemes, please contact the relevant Housing Association

All our sheltered schemes are situated in the heart of communities, you can still be close to friends and family. We’ll even help you get the best of the local services available such as healthcare, leisure and social activities.

Applying for a home
You can apply for Sheltered Housing if you are over 60yrs or over 50yrs and on Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independent Payment (PIP). Applicants under 50yrs may be considered in exceptional circumstances if it is agreed by a Senior Housing Officer that they have a need for sheltered housing or there is low demand for the accommodation. Applicants close to 60yrs and not on DLA may also be considered where there is a low demand for this type of accommodation.

Why Choose Anything Else?

Most importantly, sheltered housing can provide a sense of independence in a happy environment with the knowledge that help is on hand if required.

Please note If you would like to view any of the sheltered schemes, please ensure you contact the relevant scheme first before visiting.
